In this week's post, we’ll be discussing essential oils for healthy hair, so if you are experiencing any problems with your hair this post will address them all. I have been having hair issues the last couple of years, from thinning hair to brittle hair to hair that just won’t grow and even areas of alopecia so I decided that since I have been coming across so many remedies for healthy hair in my research into essential oils I would try using some of them to see what kind of results I would get. I’ll tell you what each oil is known for and how it helped me. I am fairly new to using them on my hair so I’ll tell you how things are going so far. I will also give you some recipes that I have come across that may help with your hair needs.
HAIR LOSS-Develops over time or can happen abruptly, I have endured hair loss for a few years now, it started when I received a chemical hair color that burned my hair and scalp and left me with a huge bald spot in the middle of my head. I have been camouflaging it for years with various hairstyles and wigs while I’ve been trying to grow it back. It has been coming in very slowly over the years so I decided to try these oils below to see if they can accelerate the process.
Rose Geranium Essential Oil-With its lovely rose scent contains a high level of essential flavonoids and antioxidants which have been shown to prevent hair loss as well as encourage hair growth. Rose Geranium essential oil acts as a barrier
against free radicals which helps hair to become healthier and its antiseptic and antibacterial properties stop bacteria growth in its tracks. Rose Geranium which has nourishing amino acids balances secretions around the hair follicles which makes it effective for hair loss.Frankincense Essential Oil-Inhibits the body’s ability to produce Alpha 5 reductase, a synthetic compound that is the main cause of hair loss. Frankincense essential oil is great for
moisturizing existing hair follicles to prevent and treat hair loss. Frankincense Essential Oil is also great for alleviating dandruff by cleansing the scalp, increasing blood circulation to the scalp and it also helps ward off scalp infection.Lavender Essential Oil-Studies show that Lavender Essential Oil helps with hair loss conditions like alopecia and pattern baldness. Lavender oil added to your shampoo and conditioner is the easiest way to use this oil but I also add it to a hair mask containing a carrier oil and several oils on this list and leave it on for about an hour or so. This not only helps with hair loss and hair growth
but also makes your hair soft and shiny. The lavender essential oil also has a calming effect so it is great for calming and healing an inflamed scalp. Always use with a carrier oil for added protection.Cypress Essential Oil-With regular daily use Cypress essential oil helps reduce hair loss by improving the condition of the scalp, this allows the pores to tighten to stop the hair loss cycle. Massage Cypress oil
into your scalp to ward off bacteria and dandruff and to navigate vital nutrients into your hair follicles to strengthen and nourish from within.
Rosemary Essential Oil- has been very popular lately on social media with claims of helping with hair loss and hair growth, so does it work? Studies show that rosemary essential oil has numerous health benefits and several hair-related benefits as well. It can improve circulation
around hair follicles and can speed up cell turnover and growth. Its anti-inflammatory elements help prevent hair loss and help to regrow hair and nourish the scalp.HAIR GROWTH-Treating hair loss for me not only means filling in my bald spots, but it also involves growing my hair as well. The next set of essential oils are ones that I’m using to accelerate hair growth, some are also the same used for hair loss. I add castor oil as a carrier oil with these oils because it also helps with faster hair growth.
Peppermint Essential Oil- Has been shown in limited studies to be more effective than minoxidil in promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss and it has far fewer side effects. Peppermint essential oil
seems to work well with rosemary essential oil for hair loss and is very refreshing and stimulating. It's best not to use peppermint essential oil if you have sensitive skin because it contains menthol which can cause a burning effect on sensitive skin.Thyme Essential Oil-There’s not much data to suggest that thyme essential oil works for hair loss on its own but it ends up on our list because coupled with other oils it shows promise as a treatment for hair loss. It has antibacterial and antiviral properties and is therefore
healing and stimulating to the scalp.
Cedarwood Essential Oil-Cedarwood essential oil promotes hair growth by enhancing circulation to the scalp. It also balances the oil producing glands in the scalp which makes the scalp more growth-friendly.

DRY HAIR-Dry/Brittle hair has also been an issue for me over the years, it causes my hair to break off and just feels hard and coarse. I’m using the oils below to help with that. I use them with coconut oil and other carrier oils as a hot oil treatment and that gives my hair a soft feel and lots of shine.
Chamomile Essential Oil-Is a great hair moisturizer, it helps to keep your hair soft and smooth. Chamomile essential oil helps restore the oil balance to your hair which keeps your hair nourished and conditioned and adds luster to your hair.

OILY HAIR-You may not think that essential oils would improve oily hair but regular use is very helpful in preventing oily scalp and they also have antibacterial and antiviral properties which keep the scalp clean and regulate sebum which is an oily, waxy substance produced by your body’s sebaceous glands.
Lemon Essential Oil-Has a lovely citrusy scent, it is great for balancing oils and preventing infections in your hair. Lemon essential oil promotes hair growth by increasing blood circulation to your scalp. Lemon essential oil like frankinsence essential oil supresses the 5 alpha-reductase compound which allows the hair follicles to grow more freely.
